ISHLT analyses how tech impacts patient care

A symposium at the recent International Society for Heart & Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) 38th Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions focused on the impact of technology on patient care.

“We live in a fascinating age where advancements in technology open pathways to helping clinicians provide innovative patient care solutions,” said Dr Christian Benden, Scientific Program Chair for the ISHLT 38th Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions. “This topic will not go away any time soon, and it will continue to be studied as we find more effective ways to incorporate technology into patient monitoring and post-transplant care.”

Topics covered in the symposium included: the need for palliative care; iPad and left ventricular assist devices (LVADs): VAD co-ordinator telemonitoring; interactive health technologies; Bluetooth tablet-based technology to aid monitoring after lung transplantation; telehealth and its effect on mortality rate in lung transplantation; and new technologies to advance future transplant patient care.
