GE Ventures, which ‘identifies, scales and accelerates ideas that will help make the world work better’, has introduced Drawbridge Health, a privately-held healthcare technology company focused on enabling personal diagnostic testing.
Drawbridge Health is developing proprietary technology intended to integrate drawing, collection and sample stabilisation into a single device, enabling healthcare providers to deliver a superior experience that eliminates the need for phlebotomy – i.e. the process of making an incision in a vein with a needle – and travel to blood draw centres. The new technology is also expected to ensure reliable results by supporting room temperature shipping and streamlined downstream processing.
The new solution is being designed to offer a way for healthcare providers and diagnostic testing companies to better engage their patient-consumers and help enable them to manage their own health. “At GE we share technology, markets, structure and knowledge across our varied businesses, which uniquely positions us to tackle many issues, including this one,” said Risa Stack, managing director of New Business Creation, GE Ventures. “With Drawbridge Health, we are combining technology from GE Global Research, expertise from GE Healthcare and business models from GE Ventures to offer a simple, safe and more efficient solution that can help save time, money and lives.”
